Pedal For A Purpose
Since 2020, Thanksgiving week became a moment to get together as a community and bike in support of food relief programs led by Dreaming Out Loud Inc.
Pedal For A Purpose invites riders to share their bike miles on social media, rewarding each bike ride with a monetary donation to #FeedTheFight.
The program is made possible by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and by an amazing cycling community that has shared nearly 3,000 bike rides over the past two years for a total of $50,000 donated to food relief programs focused on building community and opportunity.
This year, we invite you to continue pedaling for the purpose to feed the fight and create change in our community.
You can Pedal For A Purpose anywhere. Take photos and videos, and record your route with Ride Spot or any bike route tracker of your choice.
This year, we extended the program’s calendar to give you more time to support the fight against food insecurity. Pedal For A Purpose started on DC Bike Ride weekend, and we will keep pedaling in November to #FeedTheFight:
You can share your bike rides on social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) or register your rides using the Ride Spot app.
When posting on social media, make sure to tag DC Bike Ride and CareFirst and use the #PedalForAPurpose and #CareFirstCares. Your post must be public.
Now if you prefer to use Ride Spot, follow our Ride Spot profile and join the Pedal for A Purpose event to have your bike rides counted automatically and access to the leaderboard.
Bike rides must be at least 2 miles long to be counted and you can enter up to 3 rides/day.
Every bike ride of 2+ miles will be counted as 1 donation of $10 (exceptions apply).
We will like ♡ each ride shared on social media to indicate that it has been counted as a donation. Ride Spot users can check on their progress via app and access the Pedal For A Purpose event leaderboard.
Donations are limited to 3 rides per day per participant. Share your bike rides starting on 11/12 and keep going through Thanksgiving week (11/21-25).
